Welcome to the UFF/BCC Organization and affiliation page.In 1981, the United Faculty of Florida overwhelmingly won the right to represent the Faculty of Broward Community College. Other union organizations receiving votes included the American Association of University Professors and the American Federation of Teachers. The United Faculty of Florida represents community colleges and universities in the state of Florida (both public and private) and UFF, until the year 2000, was affiliated with the Florida Teaching Profession (FTP) in Tallahassee, the statewide affiliate of the National Education Association (NEA). The other major teachers' union in Florida was the Florida Education Association United (FEAU) - an American Federation of Teachers' affiliate. Although there was a "no raid" agreement between the two organizations, in reality, there was some competition between the organizations in signing up new unions. However, all that changed in 2000 when the FEAU and FTP merged to form the new organization the Florida Education Association and elected Broward Community College's own Maureen Dinnen as its first President! The new organization now speaks in behalf of over 250,000 public education employees in the state of Florida making it the largest union and the largest professional organization in the state. Only two other states have merged forces with the NEA and the AFT: Montana and Minnesota. Current thinking is Florida's action may well lead to a national merger of the AFT and NEA making the two education unions the largest uionized organization in the world. |

"In our glorious fight for civil rights, we must guard against being fooled by false slogans, as 'right-to-work.' It provides no 'rights' and no 'works.' Its purpose is to destroy labor unions and the freedom of collective bargaining.... We demand this fraud be stopped." |
